Have you ever been browsing through patterns and it hits you; love at first sight! I'd love to introduce you to my newest romantic interest:
Hourglass Throw by Anne Hanson of Knitspot.com

This is a perfect project to take advantage of the volume discount on the Cascade 220, Since you will want to use this on your next picnic, concert in the park, or your morning cuppa joe on the dock, I am including the Cascade 220 Superwash in the deal. The pattern is written for 3 sizes, Baby - 650 yds, Throw - 1525 yds, or Bedspread - 2800 yds, suggested needle is US 9 40" circular. Checking the Ravelr's who have used 220 for this project, the consensus was 8-10 skeins for the Throw. The pattern has both charted and written instructions, yeah. I'm a chart girl myself, written instructions make my eyes cross.
This Throw is also the perfect motivation for me to get started on making my "How To" videos. Short clips to show you the basic techniques. Not every project needs a hand holding and this is one of them.

I'm assuming since you are reading this that you know the most basic: casting on, knit & purl. (I will get around to these videos but I just can't get excited about those).
The techniques need for this project are:

YO

K2tog

SSK

and Cabling

You can always come back to the How To section on the Yellow Dog Knitting Blog and review as often as needed.
Enjoy and don't be afraid to ask questions and leave comments on the Videos.

The price of gas is going up up up but the price of Cascade 220 just went down down down. On top of that you can get a price break of 20% off on the purchase of 10 skeins of the same color. Now to get you started thinking about projects, how about some Summer Cabin Slippers (aka Duffers-revisited). Imagine a basket of these sitting right inside the door? A pair for every size. It's not unimaginable, a pair of these can be knit up in a day. The pattern is even available in childrens sizes. The largest adult size only takes one skein for the foot color and one skein for the sole color. The yarn is held double and then felted in your washing machine.

These slippers are designed by Mindie Tallack and looking at her ravelry site I found another pattern:

(Greengage Scarf) to use with the Cascade Eco Duo or Malagrigo Worsted , just two skeins of either one.

Have you checked out Craftsy's Free Class on Grafting? You should if you haven't yet.

There, that got your attention, but it is true.

I just got in a new shipment of Classic Elite's Liberty Print. I says to myself "Self, time to run a special"

The more you buy, of the same color, the more you save.

  • Buy 1- some ole regular price.
  • Bug 2-4 save 5%.
  • Buy 5-9 save 10%
  • Buy 10 or more save 20%.

That means if buy 10 balls of a color,  you are really only paying for 8.
That equals free yarn. See how I made that work?

Liberty Wool Print is considered by some to be a worsted weight, I classify it in the DK weight family. It looks thicker than a DK but that is mostly loft (aka air). There are things about it that I really like

  1. It's machine washable, I picture hats, mittens, kids items. You won't have to think about sending special care instructions or "just bring it to me to wash" instructions.
  2. The colors are unique. Imagine if Noro and Lorna's Laces had a baby. It's part long slow color change and part good old fashion variegated.

Take a look at my Video Review.

I have sent you project ideas before and Classic Elite puts out two new ideas with each new color release. The two newest colors are
7829 Floral Hallucination and 7830 Sugar Spun.

Here are  more patterns that are available free with your Liberty Print purchase. Just let me know which pattern you would like when you place your order.

What a busy few days I've had. I (and my manly crew) got the store moved out and it's new temp location is starting to take shape.

My handy handsome hubby, who will henceforth be called H3, finished the trim in my office.

I sat down this morning ready to take on the world when I got an email from Craftsy for a free lesson on Kitchener Stitch (aka Grafting) so I got another cup of coffee and just about an hour later I was amazed at the new stuff I learned. I thought I already knew almost everything I needed about grafting. Well, I didn't  but now I'm sure I do. This is a free lesson so hop over to Craftsy.
I also previously took the free lesson on short rows and I really improved the look of my short rowing because if you are not careful they can look more like a mistake than something you intended.
Every time you make a purchase from Craftsy by clicking through from my newsletter or website (that means click on the links) you are helping to support Yellow Dog Knitting and I thank you!
