KALs aka Knit Alongs

When I was checking out the projects on Ravlery for the other KAL choice, I noticed a few where converted into vests. I become a recent fan of wearing vests. Last winter we lowered  out thermostat at home and as long as I'm wearing a vest I can tell no difference. (except my wallet is just a little fatter). My version of the second KAL option became a vest and I just love it.

I looked at the calendar and realized we will be wearing sweaters in three months. What? Yep, sweater weather is only three months away and could actually come sooner, this is Wisconsin ya know. That means it's time to think about our Knit Alongs (KAL for short). I thought I had my mind made up last spring but you know us knitters, we can't help but keep looking at new patterns. The goods news for you, because I can't make up my mind; you will have two choices.

Choice #1
Drops Desgin 112-8 or 112-9 in Adult or Child size

This, at first looked like a more let's say time comsuming project. Upon further reviewing the pattern it's so easy. It's seamless construction, the majority of knitting is on a size 10 needle, the most unique feature is that the shaping is accomplished by changing needle sizie and not by decreases or increases.

This is the KAL model that I decided to knit first, I started it last night and I am already 5" up the body and only have 5" more to go until I can change needle size and see the shaping happen.  The yarn used is Drops Alpaca held withDrops Kid-Silk. You could subsititue a single strand of Drops Alaska or Drops Nepal. I really like the light weight feel of the Alpaca combined with the Kid-Silk. Using the Alaska or Nepal will work but it will give a heavier denser fabric.

Here are some of my favorite versions from ravelry.com
